Top-rated hotels: Manchester is the best in UK says new research
Of all the cities in the UK, Manchester boasts the most searched for and highest rated hotels.
Although London and Edinburgh top the charts for the most popular cities in the United Kingdom according to the number of searches, Manchester holds a spot in the rankings for most searched for and highest rated hotels in Europe, according to research by online travel and leisure retailer lastminute.com.
The travel research – based on analysis of search data and lastminute.com’s review database – ranks cities around the world based on average hotel reviews.
A number of different factors that contribute to an exceptional hotel experience are considered.
A list of ten cities per continent with the highest customer ratings were provided.

Great John Street Hotel is a former Victorian retreat and is home to an Oyster Bar, rooftop lounge and a library.
The top attraction in the northern UK city – which has a rich industrial heritage – is identified as the John Rylands Library.
Housed in an impressive Neo-Gothic building, the library is home to one of the world’s richest and most unique collections of books, manuscripts, maps, works of art and objects.

Top-rated hotels: Manchester attracts those looking for superior accomodation
“London is still the UK’s most visited city, and one of the biggest tourist destinations in the world,” said lastminute.com UK and Ireland country director, Reigo Eljas.
“It offers a wide range of accommodation options from budget to high end luxury.
“However, the popularity of the destination does not always guarantee the best level of service, as also our customer review data demonstrates.
“In this case Manchester takes the prize of being the only UK city to feature in the top 10 European cities with the best rated hotels.

Across all continents, the cities that travellers have rated highest are different to the cities that they are searching for when they book, the research revealed.
Cape Town is the only city to take the top spot for both popularity and hotel experience while South America has the highest number of cities that appear in both categories including Bogota, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires.
Other cities that performed well in both categories include Abu Dhabi, Boston, Chicago and Kyoto.
The study shows that the most visited cities aren’t necessarily home to the highest-rated hotels.
This trend is a sign that popular destinations need to up their game if they want to keep up visitors’ expectations.
