Google Maps Street View: What is being thrown at the Google car?

Google Maps Street View was created 11 years ago in 2007, just two years after the invention of Google Maps.

The vehicles, fitted with 360-degree cameras, use clever technology to take images that are knitted together.

This creates a seamless effect when using the website to find an address.

As part of the job, it means driving through some unsavoury and dangerous areas.

Images were captured down a side road in Pennsylvania when the driver had something thrown at them.

A glance upwards shows a man looking down at the car from a balcony just above.

He is throwing something at the driver while holding a jug with the product within it.

It appears to be confetti that he is thrown at the car as it is blown in the wind.

The reason why suddenly becomes clear when looking down the road.

The side road is full of people waving at the car, as well as a marching band and dancers.

A street performance is taking place with balloons and a party.

The images taken in 2008 seem to be planned as many are filming the event.

Despite it being a rainy day, everyone is watching the driver and are part of the celebration.

People often try and get caught by the Google car and plan to find it to get famous online.

Another group of people were spotted celebrating by the Google car, although they were caught by accident.

The car, driving through Scotland, captured a number of weird outfits outside of a pub.

Superheroes and gangsters can be spotted in the very funny scene.

It appears to be a fancy dress party or stag and hen do due to the mix of men and women in the alternate outfits.

They appear non-plussed by the Google car as it drives past.
